|a "Back in 2017, at the Jazzopen Stuttgart Festival, the great Quincy Jones put on a show that elicited many rapturous standing ovations from the capacity crowd. To kick things off, the seventy musicians of the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the SWR Big Band step out onto the stage. It is a warm summer's evening and they play a grand opening medley in the fading light that seamlessly blends classic jazz with Michael Jackson numbers like ""Wanna Be Startin Somethin."" Acting as presenter for the evening, Quincy enters in a striking multi-colored jacket to announce his protégé, Jacob Collier, the one to take music ""back to where it belongs."" Collier's fingers fly across the keys in between orchestral swells on covers like ""Human Nature"" and an original piece ""In The Early Morning."" Next up is three time Grammy award-winning singer Dee Dee Bridgewater. ""I'm Beginning To See The Light"" pays homage to Ella Fitzgerald with the singer's soul punctuated by trumpet blasts and carried by the swing of the band behind her. A sumptuous rendition of ""On the Sunny Side of the Street"" causes heads to bob and feet to stamp before the crowd rise to show appreciation. After an hour and forty minutes, Quincy re-enters to introduce his long-term friend with a glowing admiration and background anecdotes. George Benson enters to a roaring reception. His voice has a familiar, iconic soul, delivered alongside soft guitar tones and the colorful accompaniment that builds around him. After a heartfelt duet with Bridgewater, Benson ends the set with his up-tempo masterpiece ""Give Me The Night."" Indeed, a night like this may never happen again - and what better way to finish than a version of ""Let The Good Times Roll,"" with every artist coming together to fill the blues standard with their mutual affection and their love of jazz, funk, blues and soul. As Quincy steps up to the conductor's podium, the crowd gathers around, knowing how special the moment is. Rowan Standish Hayes"
