Marius Petipa, a great French ballet master who played an important role in the history of Russian ballet, was the choreographer. The libretto, based on a medieval novel, was written by L. Pashkova. Despite the trivial story, the ballet became one of the most beautiful masterpieces of the Russian ballet art
