Description
Summary:Throughout his almost twenty years as director of Holstebro Art Museum from 1998 to 2017, Folke Kjems has left a lasting impression on the museum and its collections with equal parts sense of quality and eye for interesting innovations. and preferably in line with Poul Vad's original collection policy and conceptual basis for the institution. Now he has written a book about the museum from its beginnings in 1965, as part of 'Kulturmodel Holstebro', and up to its first extension, designed by Hanne Kjærholm, which was ready in 1981. The author and critic Poul Vad (1927-2003), was one of the main forces in Holstebro's transformation into a city of culture, and as a consultant for Holstebro for many years, he made a significant mark in the city and nationally. Poul Vad was behind the purchase of art for the city, including Giacometti's Woman on a Cart, and in a few years he created an art museum from scratch that gained a reputation. As a museum man, Poul Vad was a visionary. He built the collection 'from an artistic thought' and with the conviction that all art has some core values in common - regardless of whether the art is abstract or figurative, and regardless of whether the art is created in Denmark or on distant continents
