|a "It was fashionable in specialized music magazines to criticize the JATP's European tours and their sometimes verbose jam sessions. But nobody could deny that they had the immense merit of having featured the most representative jazz musicians of the time. Judging by the line-up: Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter, Coleman Hawkins, Don Byas, Roy Eldridge, Jo Jones, The Adderley Brothers ... ""Part Three"" is no exception to the rule. What could be better than a ""Count Basie tune,"" to quote the title of a Henri Salvador song, to act as the battleground where the greatest saxophonists of the moment crossed swords? Listening to a brotherhood of Coleman ""Bean"" Hawkins, Benny Carter and Don Byas is a pure delight, a pleasure that persists in front of Cannonball Adderley's Parkerian offerings. His brother Nat's volubility is on par with Dizzy Gillespie, a character as extravagant, caustic, sincere and intelligent as Groucho Marx. Yet Dizzy's partners should not be overlooked: saxophonist and flautist Leo Wright deserves more attention than he has received in history, and the 28-year-old music director and Argentinean pianist Lalo Schifrin was at the dawn of a great career as a composer of film music. **Philippe Lesage**"
