Item Description: | Different printings of Tomes 1 and 2 sometimes contained minor variations in the subtitles In Tome 2, "Paris dévoilé, ou, Les mystères Sus" (which is a parody of Eugène Sue's "Les mystères de Paris" by Cham), the text is printed in red with illustrations that resemble silhouettes printed in black (livraisons 25, 30, 34, 41, and 46) It was originally projected Tomes 1 and 2 would be issued in 100 parts; but they were actually produced in 48 parts, as follows: Tome 1, first published in 1842, included livraisons 1-24 which were continuously paginated ([4], [1]-192); Tome 2, published in 1843, was comprised of livraisons 25-48 which were paginated [4], [1]-48, [241]-384. Some, but not all of the livraisons included individual title pages Publication date from Vicaire, G. Livres du 19. s., V, 1232-1234 This WorldCat-derived record is shareable under Open Data Commons ODC-BY, with attribution to OCLC Title vignettes from "Métamorphoses du jour, ou, Les hommes à têtes de bêtes, par J. Grandville, mises sur bois par E. Forest" appears in 7 livraisons of Tome 1, 1st printing (but only 5 livraisons in the 2nd printing) and 2 livraisons in Tome 2. An error in the index of the 2nd printing of Tome 1 incorrectly identifies one of pages on which Grandville's drawings appear as "163," when it actually is on p. 168 Tomes 1 and 2 include indexes on unnumbered page facing title page |
