Text illustrated with two large folded plans of the fortifications and access points of Bois-le-Duc; two maps of the town; and five plans and three drawings of individual forts, the rivers and dykes surrounding Bois-le-Duc, and a new type of fortification able to withstand canon shots, several signed by the Dutch-Polish printmaker Wilhem Hondius who also illustrated Adam Freitag's Architectura militaris nova et aucta, published in Leiden by B. & A. Nevertheless, it fell to Frederick Henry, Prince of Orange (1584-1647) and his force of 30,000 men. The siege began on 27 May 1629, and the town capitulated four months later on 14 September 1629. | ||
